Thu Progress League is taking steps to liivvc 'Westland specially advertised in Christchurch and Wellington, per medium of the theatre screen. 'This is an attractive form of advertising, and no doubt catches the eye of many would 1)0 travellers. Westland can afford to advertise itself and extol its scenic and climatic attractions. Suae exception might he taken to the latter reference, I,at, there is no doubt the Westland climate compares more than favourably with other centres. Particularly so is this in 11 10 u inter and summer sea-
sons. Spring on -occasions lias been wet ami boisterous, but this year the climatic attractions of the district are undeniable. 1L is true there is a substantial rainfall recorded for the year, and at times even weekly, but the damage resultant is very much less than a more moderate rainfall elsewhere. The natural configuration of the country contributes to that result. 'I hero are many streams and the drainage area is limited, while the fall to the ocean is a material factor in quickly disposing of any excess ill rainfall. Of the minfnl. too, it is a fact that a great proportion of the fall bills overnight. and the results are not so noticeable. A. great deal of the objection voiced outside to the district, where complaint is made against- the rainfall or weather conditions, is not justified in reason. The present condition of feed on the Coast generally is an
outstanding answer to complaints about the prevailing c limate. 'I be district might well be judged by its climate, and not suffer thereby. As to its scenic attractions they are beyond compare. The Christmas numbers of some of tlie illustrated weeklies now in circulation. bear out the special and jicciilinr claims ol the district as a tourist or holiday resort. There is thus every reason for the authorities in their present advertising .scenic, extolling the special attractions of the district. From all accounts the coming season will lie ,a good one. Many folk are planning their holiday trips to the Coast, and the Canterbury excursions are expected to be in full swing again. It should be specially opportune therefore to advertise Westland to the fullest oil the other side of the ranges during the holiday-making period of the year.
