RANKERLY SHIELD. BY TELEGRAEH —CRESS ASSN., COPYRIGHT. WELLINGTON, Aug. IP. Mannwhenua, for the first time m the history of Raiifurly Shield matches are now holders of the trophy. Taranaki still have a chance or securing the trophy, as a match with Mannwhenua for tho Shield, on the 111st, inst., has been approved. If Aianawhenua retain tho trophy, they will be required to defend it against Wanganui on the 3rd September; then Canterbury will meet the present holders on 7th September. Mannwhenua are at present on tour, and are to play Auckland at Auckland, to-morow. This match, however, will not he for the Shield. The trophy is at present in Hawke's Bay, hut a,s soon as Hawke’s Bay are officially notified of the decision of the Appeal Council, the Shield will no doubt ho sent oil to the new holders.
HAWKE’S BAY DECISION. NAPIER, Aug. 20. What i.s believed to be an indication bv the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union that they will not now take the Shield appeal to the Supreme Court, was given at :i meeting last night when it was decided to ask the Now Zealand Ruguy Union foy instructions as to where to forward the trophy. The decision is taken here in well-informed circles as indicating that Hawke's Bay will hand the Shield iio the new holders and then let the matter drop.
