PRICE OF GOLD.
Mr Seddon M.P., has received the following letter from the Under Secretary, Mines Department:—Re Gold Producers in Westland and prices obtained for gold. Replying to your letter or 11th. inst. hereon, I have to state that the Banks doing business as gold dealers are prepared to act as agents lor gold miners and others on payment of the following commission:
On lOOozs., or less, 1% with a minimum of 30/- on any single parcel; Over 100 ozs. and up to 500 ozs. 1% on the first 100 ozs., and 1% on the excess ; 4
Over 500 ozs. }% on the whole parcel. In addition the owners would have sundry small expenses such as freight, insurance, etc. on each parcel, and presumably if an advance on the gold had had been sought then interest charges would be made until the money realised from the sale came to hand. From the returns furnished to ' the Department it is observed that Mr Harman Reeves, of High Street, Dunedin, Sharebroker, was paying during November 1920 from £4 155., to £5 per oz. for gold purchased by him.

The High Commissioner cables, London 7tli: —The official price of gold today is £5 13s 3d, for shipment to America.
