The Plunket Shield match, Auckland v. Wellington, commenced to-day "itli perfect weather. The wicket on the ]sasin Reserve was in splendid condition. Much interest was manifested in the fixture, and a large attendance was present. Wellington won the toss, and batted first, Hiddlestone and Phillips making a good stand lor the first wicket, which fell with the score 112. When, stamps were drawn *cr the day, Wellington’s total was 306 for the-loss of eight wickets. Hiddlestone made 144, Phillips 36, Burton 18, Donoghiie 6, Lambert 0.
