WELLINGTON, January 4
At the bloodstock sale of 11. Hannons racehorses, Boomerang was sold for 500 guineas privately, after failing to reach the reserve in the ring. Pukoniarama was bought by It. Iteid foi b(i guineas. For Tinohoro, 1500 guineas was offered and refused. None of the others changed hands.
THE WEATHER
WELLINGTON, January 3
The weather continues brilliant for the holidays. A shot sun is tempered by moderate winds. I nder the circumstances the seaside resorts and picnic grounds bv forest and stream have been thronged and the city in da\-time seems about deserted. During the beautiful evenings merry throngs, laughing and singing, come home by rail and mojtolr and horsed vehicles. All the trains have been crowded, and the figures will surely be record ones. Fortunately there have been few serious accidents and the conduct of the people generally has been most exemplary. The Government meteorologist says we have to go back many years for such an experience ol fine holiday weathei ns we have. had.
DUNEDIN, Jan. 3
The teinperaturo in Dunedin at G o’clock last night was 80 in the shade, and 120 in the sun. This morning at seven o’clock the tlirlrmometer registered 70 in the shade and 120 in the sun. and al; nine o'clock 8-1 and 12/5. At noon there was a sharp shift of wind to the west and south, and in ten minutes the temperature dropped 1 1 degrees.

TTMAR-U, January 3. The South Canterbury Caledonian Sports were concluded to-day in very hot weather, 96 degrees in the shade being registered in town. There was a large attendance. The gate takings for till' two days were £527, a sum only excelled by the Championship Meeting in 1011. There were good fields and good contests. Results: 100 Yards—L. Spring (7yds.) 1, J. In this race, partly due to the wind, Hughes, a young cyclist, in the last lap was heavily thrown against a post and suffered severe scalp wounds. He was taken, to the hospital.
