A constable was sh 0 t at Salford on Sunday night and a large warehouse set ' on fire on Saturday. Both outrages are attributed to Sinn Feiners. , \ HOME RULE ELECTION.
(Received this day at 1.30 p.m.) Jg, LONDON, January 3. There are sufficient candidates in ] 4fc''South Ireland to make the working of the Southern Parliament under Home Rule, a success. This places Sinn Fein in an awkward position. If it boycotts the election it will find Ireland governed by Irishmen of moderate opin- ( ion. Ireland hopes Sinn Feiners will now be persuaded to give ,up the idea of a Republic. Ulster is willing to hold ithfe elections immediately, but it is -( probable the elections in c north * and south will*, be held the same day.
