IMPROVEMENT AT WELLINGTON

From the public's point of view each succeeding day sees an improvement in the strike situation in that a fuller and more complete railway service is being put into operation. On .'Saturday the Department wa s able to take the ordinary suburban passengers into Wellington and to return them to their homes after midday. In addition, four race trains conveying officers and men of the visiting fleet were run to Trentham, each train consisting of eighteen cars, carrying a total of between 3000 and 4000 people. To-day (Sunday) trains were run between Wellington and Upper Hutt, leaving Wellington in the morning and afternoon. To-morrow . a mail train will leave Wellington for Napier at 9.10 a.m., taking passengers and mails. The Department announces that suburban trains wili also run. tomorrow.

AUCKLAND. April 27

A skeleton train service to Papatoetoe on the south suburban line was inaugurated on Saturday, when four trains ran at long intervals without untoward incident. It is proposed to run I a train from Frankton to-morrow, re--turning in the afternoon. The subt urban service will also he extended.

CHRISTCHURCH, April 27

Something like a skeleton train service may be instituted to-day. Charabanc passenger services to all parts of the South Island are now in full swing. DUNEDIN, April 27.

A skeleton railway service is being maintained, and motor services are being extended in all directions.
