WELCOME SOCIAL

Tlie Rev. E. B. Chambers, late of Taihape, has taken up his duties.as superintendent minister of the Egmont circuit. A representative gathering of Methodists assembled at the welcome social tendered to Mr and Mrs Chambers last Wednesday evening. Mr, J. A. Pettigrew presided. A musical prcr gramH\e, interspersed with short addresses suitable to the occasion, passed a very enioyaSle evening.

ANZAC DAY

The anniversary of Anzac Day was observed quietly. In the forenoon memorial services were conducted at the Anglieam Omreh. % £hft Bey.. Solcwio and j|t the Catholic Church by the Rev. Father Kennedy. During the day a large number of beautiful wreaths were placed on the Soldiers' Memorial as a token of remembrance for sacrifice made, in the evening there was a large attendance at the combined service held in the Town Hall under control of Revs H. A. Moore (Presbyterian) and E. B. Chambers (Methodist). ' The Federal Band was in attendance, and played the accompaniments for the hymns, and an impressive rendering of "Abide With Me." Mr R. Campbell's solo. "Nearer My God to Thee," was r'jfidered with aiMich fee'lmg. Rev. Moore, who had seen active service at Gallipoli, gave the address, and graphically pictured the heroic deeds of the laading party. After the singing of the National Anthem, the Last Post was rsounded by Bugler Dcs Forges, of the Main Body Force.

PREPARATIONS FOR BAZAAR

IThe members of the Catholic congregation are working hard in preparation for the forthcoming bazaar in aid of funds for building a new church. Social functions are being held throughout the district, and street marts in the town are being energetically supported to provide funds for stocking the various sta'M*.
