TAL'MAHUNTJI, March 25. On Mnrch 23. a third party, consisting of Messrs T. Blyth (Ohakinie) A. W. Jordan and M. Galvin (Taumarunui) made an ascent of Girlestone Peak, 8750 feet, in Tongariro Park, for the purpose of ascertaining the condition of the marble slab erected thereon two years a<?o in memory of the late Hugh Girdlestone, F.R.G.L. Despite the^powerful disintegrating forces which are continually acting against this precipitous pinnacle, the monument displayed no sign of deterioration, and the party are of the opinion that its permanency is now assured.
