EVENING MEETING

Some interesting events were witnessed at the Show Grounds last night when the Hawera Athletic Club held anl other of their evening meetings. Good performances were witnessed but the number of contestants was not so lar^e as had been expected, owing to the tact that the Patea team did not arrive —no doubt owing to the inclemency of the weather. The 120 yards hurdles was won. on the tape by J. N. Goodson, quite a young runner, L. B Kyngdon being the first over the last hurdle. In the 220 yards flat Goodsen a^ain proved the winner, he winning from K. l. McGregor by a narrow margin. Another young runner won the 880 yards by beating E. Scott by a few inches. S. Lay, with a 30ft. handicap, won the javelin throwing competition, he actually throwing 134 ft. as against L" iH™? t>s best throw of 135 ft. Loretz and Williamson had the two-mile cycle race between them the first-mentioned rider winning in the ride home by about 30 yards. Following are the results:
