(BY TELEGRAPH —PIIESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, July 17. The House met-at 2.30 p.m. Replying to the Hon. D. Buddo (Kaiapoi) the Hon. J. G. Coates said lie would do everything possible to assist the carriage of coal through the Otira tunnel to relieve the shortage in Canterbury. ' • - Replying to Mr W. D. Lysnar (Gisbome), Mr Massey said lue would have to consult the Minister of Agriculture regarding the submission of the producers' shipping line proposals to the Agiiicultural Stocks Committee of the House, but personally he had no objection to that course.

Replying to Mr G. Witty (Riccarton) Mr Massey said tliat^Beports had keen received from eleven land districts concerning soldiers' settlements. As might be expected, these reports were not all uniform, and the Lands Department was now engaged in going through them with a view to co-ordinating them. They would then be submitted to the Government, which would then have to consider what legislation should be brought down. He thought the reports would be in the hands of the Government in a few days, and he could assure the House that no time would be lost in giving the matter consideration.

Replying to Mr T. M. Wilford (leader of the Opposition), the Hon. J. G. Coates said the whole question of railway deviations in the Dominion would be shortly brought under review, but he would not say whether the House would be given another opportunity to vote on the Palmerston North deviation, as that was a matter for the Premier to say. The following Bills were introduced and read a first time: City of Christchureh Electric Power and Loan Empowering Amendment Bill (Mr Isitt), Christshureli Tramway District Amendment Bill (Mr Isitt), Thames Harbour Board Loan and Empowering Act 1920 Amendment Bill (Mr T. W. Rhodes).
