BILLIARDS.
:"• ~~—•-■♦'. : , , :■ . ■■.-■' : A large and enthusiastio audience assembled in T. W; Evans' billiard parlour last evening to witness the display given by Clarke McCbnachy, the '-N«w Zealand professional billiard champion in an exhibition gam© with Luk« Brough, MeConaehy conceding the latter 450 in a game of 750 up. la th« earlier stages of the game Brough showed to advantage by compiling a neat 20 break, but McConachy for some time did not seem to get conHfol of the balls, and it was not until his j ninth visit to the table that the ;spectators received a glimpse of the wonderful control McConachy has over the I balls once he has them "at the top of the stable. It was here that the ma- « jority of his first brealc of 125 was ■ compiled. His next efforts brought ► 10, 17, 107 and a beautifully compiled * 300, in which he gave a varied display - of top-end work intermingled with^de- - li^htful little runs of close cannons j along ' the top cushions; and once or I twice he displayed unusual skill atthe ' masse shot. The final scores were McConaehy 750, Brough 587. Mc--1 Oonachy then played a few seemingly 1 impossible fancy shots, and the enter--1 tainment concluded .with «, round of > applause.' Asked as to his opinions of ? the table, McConachy stated he 1 would have been unable to play as ho had done if the table had not been, in ' perfect condition. The game was nlayed with erystallate balls, McCbnr achy not having played with ivory si*o« leaving England.
