■ ♦ (From Our Own Correspondent.) , The card and party and sale of mys- I tery parcels, in aid of the funds of St. ! George's Church, was held in the Sun- ' day school room on Wednesday evening, a large number of town and coun_ ' try residents being present. Proceed- ! mgs were opened with a community j sing for about half-an-hour, and then ! bridge and euchre were played until 10 ! p.m. The prize-winners were: Bridge, j Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Stephenson; euchre, Miss. Barr and Mr. J. A. McKenna. When presenting the prizes, j the Rev. Mr. Goertz took the oppor- j tunity of thanking all who helped to make the evening such a success. i On the Public Works estimates ap- ! pears a vote of £5000 for a new post office at Patea. It is to be hoped that i on this occasion it will not be allowed '. to remain simply a vote; the time has arrived when the money should be spent. Visitors to the opening of the bowling green on Wednesday next need have no qualms about the green The green committee, under the direction of Mr. G. Williams, have put a lot of work into the greens during the last month, with the result that to-day it is playing well, and by Wednesday next it will be as near perfection as human toil can make it.
