Harrison, fat stock buyer for Sims, Cooper and Co., Ltd., has again taken up his residence in Hawera. 1 The death of the Rev. J. C. Yorke, Methodist minister at Wanganui, is reported, following a serious operation. Mr. Yorke had only recently been appointed to the charge of the Waiiga- ''■ nui East Church. I Rev. Father Maples, of Stratford, yesterday received the following cablegram from Cardinal Gasparri, Rome: "On the occasion of your sacerdotal jubilee, the Holy Father heartily sends you his Apostolic Blessing." Mr C. A. Wilkinson, of Eltham, j hinted at yesterday's meeting of the j New Plymouth Harbour Board that he j would not be seeking re-election on the . expiry of his present term. He meni tioned that he had been a member of i the board now for 14 years. ! The Raetfhi Call says that the many j frmds of Mrs. Walter Harris will re- , gret to learn of her death, which took. . place on Saturday evening last at Raei tihi. Deceased only took ill on Friday j suffering from pneumonia, and passed ; away as above, the cause of death be- < ing heart failure. The late Mrs. Har|ns arrived in that district about 14 | years ago with her father, Mr. Henry Inman Davis; from Patea. and after being resident some little time married Mr. Walter Harris. Deceased was born at Patea, and was a sister of Mr i Hector Davis, of Raetihi. The late Mrs. Hams leaves behind a husband and young daughter, as well as a large circle of friends, all of whom will regret her demise at the early age of 47. A function for the purpose of bidding farewell and God-speed to Miss Alice Howell was held in the St Aubyn Methodist Church, New Plymouth, on "Wednesday evening. The Rev. W. J. Elliott, who presided, explained that Miss Howell had been ap- j pointed to deaconess work among the | Maoris, and he congratulated the con- I gregation upon having a young lady I who seemed eminently fitted for the important duties she would have to attend to. Mrs. Mclsaacs presented Miss Howell with a travelling rug and eulogised her character and zeal and work on behalf of the church. It was announced that the Hawera Ladies' Missionary Auxiliary had provided a bicycle for Miss Howell," which will be presented to her when she takes up her work in that district. The congregation of the St. Aubyn Church I passed a resolution expressing their appreciation of the Hawera ladies' generous gift to Miss Howell. | The Launceston (Tasmania) City , Council is in communication with Mr. t F T. Bellringer, town manager of New Plymouth, with reference to th* position of city manager of Launceston. Some time ago the latter city appointed Mr. F. M. Nicholls, the run-ner-up being Mr. Bellringer. Lately the services of Mr. Nicholls were dispensed with, and Launceston is desirous of securing those of Mr. Bellringer. Spoken to last evening by a News representative, Mr. Bellringer said whilst the statement had been published that the Launceston Council was in communication with him, the letter he had received from the Mayor was of a private nature, and therefore he was unable to make any public statement on the matter.
