Last week a ; seaman named Hemus •was erasw-isted on. ; & .charge of smuggling opium, and to-day a Chinaman named Joe Lain was convicted on a charge -oi having two tins of -opium in his possession. The.police stated that the opium was part ©f what Hemus smuggled from the CJEmaroa, The accused was fined £40 and costs, and was also fined £10 and costs for being.
