Parmett (Christchurch); confer- , ence sermon~"pretfcher, Rev. A. S. Wil- ' son; deputy, Rev. Hercus; editor of i The Baptist, Rev. J. J. North; auditor, Mr. Charles Collins; solicitor. Mr. O. Mazengarb. On the motion of the Rev. J. J. North the following motion was car- ; ried: "The conference calls attention to the ominous spread of gambling, and affirms that the licensing by the Government of the totalisator is responsible for the alarming growth of gambling in all classes of society; the conference believes the time has arrived for a nationwide movement against gambling; that clear teaching ought to be given everywhere on social economics and the moral perils of the gambling' habit; and that > the circumstances of the day demanded that the Government license for petty; gambling in aid of philanthropic or religious purposes should be at once withdrawn."
