HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

The ordinary meeting of the Waimate Horticultural Society was held in the Manaia Town Hall last evening. There was a large attendance. Mr. T. A, Bridge presided. . .','", xi Correspondence was received from the secretary of the Hibernian sports committee re hiring the refreshment tent for their sports on April 9. It was decided to grant the use of the tent on the usual terms. r

The secretary produced a statement of the^ recent show., which was most satisfactory, having passed all previous records. • ;

A committee consisting of Messrs H. Hill, J. A. Hansen, Hewlett, T. McPhillips, and T. A. Bridge, Mesdames Bennett, Hill, Donald, and Campbell, were appointed to revise the schedule for th*e next annual show. , It was decided to arrange for more seating accommodation for next year. The matter of erecting a shed in place of tents was; discussed, and finally a committee was. formed, consisting of the president, E. Long, J.,A. Hansen, and A. Andrews, to collect data and report to next meeting. The secretary was instructed to insert a letter of thanks in the press to all judges, stewards, donors of prizes, the ladies, and all others who so willingly helped the society at their recent show.

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. Lowe for his» long service to the society, on the motion of Messrs McPhillips and Long. ■ .„- Mr. E. Long paid a very high tribute to the secretary, Mr.. T. H. Hobday, for the very efficient manner in which he carried out his many duties. Mr. T. McPhillips endorsed Mr. Long's remarks, and Mr. Hobday was awarded a hearty vote of thanks. A hearty vote of thanks was also accorded the president, Mr, T. A. Bridge, on the motion of Messrs T.-McPhillips and E. Long. The president and secretary returned thanks and the meeting terminated. The accounts passed for payment (totalled £216 17s lOd.
