Sports at public schools are always in-T-eresting, and have become, as we"hope •they always will be, a very integral paVt -or the curriculum, making, a® they do tor much good in the life of the pupil' •of the school, and of the nation ' ' The girls' sports at Nga Tawa. Marton, attract each year a large number oi .parents, friends, and old girls to view a -sports meeting that .in many respects is good and as interestim/as-at many of tire boys' schools. This year Nga Tawa were very fortunate in "the weather, the day—last Monday—being as tine as the most fastidious could wish. The events were, as always, most keeniy <«ornpeted, and times were particularly .good.; no less than sever, previous re•oords beincr '-'smashed," some of them very severely. The hurdling, high and ■broad jumping were particularly good, . -and a display of physical dril3 was ■watched with the keenest of interest. .1 The Lord Bishop of Wellington and j several of the trustees were present in tho afternoon. Dr Fookes (New Plymouth), Messrs G. Eliott (Bulls),-W. A Ifcard, Wyley, and S. S^owdrell (Wanganui) acted as jijdgeC starter and timekeeper. In UW fathers' race Dr Fookes was beaten by. S. Powdriell (Wanganui). It was interesting that in the high jump the three competitors who tied for first t>lace also tied last year. Two of the" prettiest events were the hurdling and the junior •high jump. It was a striking fact that ..most of the athletic winners scored well ■also in scholarship.
