INQUEST ON INFANT'S BODY
j DEATH DUE TO ASPHYXIATION. (BY TELEGEAPH —PEESS ASSOCIATION.) DTJNEDIN, Jan. 22. An inquest was opened to-day on the body of a newly-born infant found in -a, sack at St. Clair beach, on Tuesday with a piece of linen tied tightly round its neck. Dr Evans said that the body was fully developed and well nourished. There was a circular pressure mark on the neck. He was of opinion that the i child had lived, and that the cause of ! death was asphyxiation. There was no water in the lungs, showing that it had not been drowned, and there j must have been some interference with i the air. supply. | The constable said that the bag, which had apparently been in the sea. | but could not have been there long, was found at high water mark. The inquest was adjourned sine die.
