"NOT ESSENTIAL"
RAILWAYMEN'S COMPLAINTS.
CANNOT TRAVEL.
The action of the Railway Department m refusing under their "nonessential" clause governing travelling on the railway to issue a ticket beyond the suburban area to a t>orte>r on leave is very much resented by members of the A.S.R.S. (says the Auckland Star). » While the man has six weeks' leave and a privilege ticket to travel he is prevented, according to the statements of the men from taking a prospective holiday m Wellington. Further than this the men complain that men in samiliar nositions who are on the "relief" at Frankton Junction are debarred from coming home to Auckland because the Department says that it would not be essential. _Again the men complain that when: their holidays are due the Department books them off, despite their application* to be emitted to take them later, when thev might be able to take adj vantage of their passes.
