SCHOOL COMMITTEE
A meeting of the School Committee was held on Friday, when Messrs Madgwick, Preston, Paine, Mills, Chapman, Ballantine, and Grant were present. It was decided to open the school at 9 a.m. for the summer months. The roll number at present is 146, with an average attendance of 127.1, many of the younger children being absent owing to bad weather. Mr Paine reported that the net credit balance of the late concert was £8 ss, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr T. C. Gormley and all those who so kindly assisted. Messrs Chapman and Grant were appointed a deputation to wait on the Town Board regarding improvements to the footpath on the main road and the construction of a culvert at the main entrance. Accounts amounting to £16 2s lid were passed for payment. SCHOOL GROUNDS. The committee are anxiovis to get on with the necessary work of laying out and improving the grounds at the 4 xiew school, and as the funds at their disposal are limited, would be glad to receive assistance from parents and i friends. A working bee has been arranged for to-morrow (Wednesday), when it is hoped that a large number will attend and assist in making the grounds a credit to the town.
