DOWNFALL OF BOLSHEVISM.
SUPREME COUNCIL DUBIOUS
HOW BELAKUN LOST HIS POWER
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT (Received Aug. 6, 8.5 a.m.) PARIS, Aug. 3. The Supreme Council is suspicious of the new Hungarian Government, which is possibly merely a camouflage Bolshevik Government. It is pointed out Beidl was Belakun's generalissimo, and also represented Belakun at Vienna. He is now Foreign Minister. Agoston was similarly a friend of Belakun. The Council has decided to judge the Government hy its acts. Vienna messages state the disastrous military situation caused Belakun's downfall. The latter was received with universal rejoicing. The Cabinet consists of members of the Metal Workers' Union and members of the former Karoyli Ministry. The Government's j immediate task is to stop the advance of the Roumanians. (Times.) ! i VIENNA, Aug. 3. j A rapid and dramatic series of events preceded the collapse of Belakun's Government. Discontent among the starved people, concurrent with [ the success of the approaching Roumanians, sealed the fate of the Soviet laders. The troops in Budapest, except the picked terrorist section, were found unreliable. The majority had been recently armed, and the workmen were dissatisfied with their pay, and only awaited an opportunity to revolt. After a meeting of Cabinet the Soldiers and Workers' Council debated the position. The principal speaker attributed the crisis to the failure of the world revolution, lack ( of aid from Russia, and the unreadiness of the Hungarian proletariat to make further sacrifices. The Bolshevists agreed that in view of the hopelessness of the military situation the only course was to revert to a i democratic basis.
