POSITION MORE HOPEFUL.

Mr Guthrie said he had received" the : following cable from the High Commis- ! suuier, uated London, July 30: '"With reference to my telegram of July 14 and your telegram of July 28, I have further represented seriousness of the position to the Australian Tonnage Committee. They are unable to allocate more than 17,000 tons during August but hope to improve on 30,000 tons during September. They informed me they are working to meet the request contained m the cable from the Wellington Tonnage Committee, namely, to xwl c Wf ni>sr °f meat in store in New Zealand by December 1 to approximately 100,000 tons" appioxi The Minister adds that this shows the position to be more hopeful, but delays du c to various causes must be taken auto account
