Mi- R° Semple, M.P., in his demands fo r a public enquiry as to the coal situation as we are of the opinion that the shortage as alleged by the Government does not exist. We would also point out that on th© West Coast the Government have reserve stores in round figures of 3000 tons of coal without touching thfir ordinary stock, which also amounts to a very large1 quantity, running well into four figures."
