ODea) proceeded against Peter Theodore Pedersen licensee of the Empire Hotel (Mr G. H. Ryan), for £30. It appeared from the evidence for the plaintiff that on April 19 last the plaintiff, with, a number of others, was leaving the hotel premises at six o'clock, I when he got las hand jammed in the | door of the Princes street entrance ' through the porter (Colman) slamming the door. He had his hand badly smashed and consequently was absent from work for nearly two months.

I Evidence for the plaintiff was also given by Taka Adlam and Simon Penny. Mr Ryan, for the defence, contended that the porter was only carrying out his duty lawfully in clearing the bar at six o'clock, and shutting the door, and the defence denied that the porter was responsible for the injuries to the plaintiff, who had taken hold of the door at his own risk. There was plenty of room for plaintiff to have got out of the door. The licensee, in his evidence, said the plaintiff did not blame him for the accident. Mr Ryan was unable to c-all the porter, as he hs>A left the district. The Magistrate, after visiting the premises, said the plaintiff's story was substantiated, and he gave judgment for the plaintiff for £20.
