ASSISTANCE TO SOLDIERS.
WELLINGTON, Jun e 12. «y a Gazette Extraordinary financial assistance to soldiers' regulations are amended, authorising the Minister of Defence to pay out of the war expenses account to any officer or noncommissioned officer, or man who has been honorably discharged from the Expeditionary Force after service therein beyond the seas, a bonus not exceeding the amount which might have been paid to him by way of financial assistance under the Financial Assistance Regulations, 1918, in respect of the period of his service in the Expeditionary Force (together with a period not exceeding six months thereafter) if he had made due application therefor in accordance with those regulations prior to his discharge, save that in respect of the period prior to January 30, 1918 the maximum annual amount which n*ay be so paid shall "be £104 and not exceed £156. No bonus will be granted except on the recommendation of a Military Service Board. Every application for a bonus must be made by the applicant within three months after his return to New Zealand, or, in the case of applicants who have already returned, within three months after the date of these regulations.
