HYDROELECTRIC
A, meeting of delegates from local bodies and dairy companies -was held at Eltham to take steps in the direction of further promoting a hydroelectric scheme: The discussion was rather indefinite, because there was no exact information as to which would be the more practicable .source of supply, and opinion differed as to the wisdom of linking up with New Plymouth or getting a local source. The latter was the more favored. Mr EL W. Forsyth took a hopeful view of tke possibilities of the higher reachesof the Patea river, and said for an expenditure of about £50 definite knowledge could ibe obtained. Eventually, it was agreed without dissent (we learn from the Argus) that a committee be set up consisting of one delegate from each' local body and company represented, to obtain a report on the sources of power available in the district, and report to another meeting; also to define the district, the power required, probable cost ot construction of works, the probable cost of transmission, and of the Government taking over the scheme under the national scheme.
B; -was suggested that the local bodies and companies appoint their own delegates to this committee. Mr G. D. Gow was appointed convenor of the meeting of the delegates.
