RUGBY

BY CABLE—PIIESS ASSOCIATION—COPYEIGHT

(Aus.N-.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, April 19.' In the Rugby game at Twickenham, New Zealand defeated France by 20 points to 3. The New Zealand team also beat Cardiff by 23 to 3.

Fifteen thousand attended the match. Sir Douglas Haig accompanied the King, who shook hands with the players. Play was even in the first half. The Frenchmen opened the scoring with a try. Singe shortly afterwards equalised matters, Stohr's kick at goal failing. In the second half the New Zealanders quickly assumed and maintained the upper baud. Hazell, West, Killick, Brown, and Ford scored tries, Ryan converting the last one. The New Zealanders' superb condition and sounder knowledge of | the game gave them a distinct advan- | tage.

Before the commencement of the Rugby match at Twickenham, the King congratulated the New Zealanders on winning the inter-services tournament, and handed the cup to Ryan, captain of the team.
