j General Koltchak captured Stillitamak, rendering the Bolshevik position I critical on the Grinburg front, and cutting off the entire Bolshevik rear j where possible. The Red Guards are precipitately retreating, while the Chinese, Magyar and Lettish mercenaries, whose retreat is blocked, are standing desperately. The Soviet Coraniissionaries deserted the troops and are rushing to 6afety beyond the Volga while the ice holds. General Koltchak's rapid advance was possible owing to the plentitude-of reserves and supplies. The Bolsheviks lost hundreds of guns and 10,000 prisoners, while the number killed is greater. The advance has now reached 100 miles from the Volga. Optimists predict the complete collapse of the Bolshevists and believe that Moscow will be reached in twoi months.
