OBSERVANCE OF FRANCE'S DAY
NEW YORK, July 16.
There was a nation-wide observance of Bastille Day, the Tricolor being flown from all the public buildings. Pro. sident Wilson sent the folowing message to President Poineare:—"The 14th of July, like the 4th of July, has taken ou a. new significance throughout the whole world. We celebrate the 14th as France celebrated the 4th. The war i s being fought to save ourselves from intolerable things, also to save mankind. 5'
Mr Newton D. Baker (Secretary for War) sent the following sentiments to France: —"We Mere comrades at the beginning of our democratic careers. France md the United States arc again brother* in arms in defence of demo-cracy."'—Aus.-N.Z. Crible Association.
