ENTERTAINMENTS,
WORLD'S PICTURES
'THE WHEEL OF THE L -'AV."
This fine Metro play features Emily Stevens and Frank Mills, both of whom have won a place at the top of the tree as artistic performers. In "The Wheel of the Law" striking examples of what high-class acting can do with a strong story are given. The main theme is the convicting on capital charges on circumstantial evidence, and it is developed to a powerful climax. The leading character is an ambitious attorney or prosecuting lawyer, and the plot makes him work to convict a man of murder, after he has been promised jthe governorship, if he secures the conviction. The lawyer's wife is the sister of the innocent man, and she shows her husband that it is possible to entangle even a clever lawyer in the same mesh. Then he listens and gives up the case. Other pictures will be "A High Old Time" comedy, John Bull Sketch Book, and "A Means to the End" Essanay drama.

OPERA HOUSE, TO-NIGHT
"A GAMBLE IN SOULS."
Commencing _ this evening the. management will present an entire •change, including a fine Triangle drama, "A Gamble in Souls." The picture is a beautiful one in many respects, and comprises a number of surprising photographic feats. Arthur "VVlorden, the hero, is a religious missioner with serious views and a full «ense of his responsibilities, and he is thrown into contact with Freda Maxey, a cafe entertainer, who scornfully re- I pulses bini when he a>sks her to attend a mission service. She is engaged by Tom Leonard, an Australian vaudeville agent, to visit the Commonwealth, and the two leave on a large steamer, on which Worden has also taken a passage. The vessel comes to grief, and the three are thrown on an island, where a contest between the two men for the girl's eoul ends in a victory for the missibner. The supports are good, including Billie Burke in Gloria's Romance (The Midnight Riot), and the latest "Pathc Gazette." The Lyric Orchestra will provide the musical requirements to a fine programme. Two performances will be given to-morrow, sit 2 o'clock and 8 o'clock.
