The chairman mentioned that he had received an offer by an old settler of Alton to subsidise by £1 every £3 colei pay ,off the Permanent debts on the hall and he thought that a big effort should be made to collect as much as possible from the settlers and the young people. The following were then proposed for a new committee by Messrs Foreman and Sutherland : Messrs- Hodge, Tayler Neilson, Sutherland^ and Washer to^ I gether with the trustees, Messrs Fore j man and Gibbs. Messrs Neilson and Washer proposed J as an amendment that Messrs Hodge, Sutherland, Tayler. Gibbs, and Foreman be a committee. This was lost and the chairman put the resolution and declared it carried. At a subsequent meeting Messrs Modge and Gibbs were elected chairman and secretary respectively.
