ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
NAPIER. May 23. I A car, owned by Peter Smith, collided ' with the handrail of a bridge near Pc- ; tane last night, Mr and Mrs Mooar i and child, a man named Wilkinson, and j two others being thrown out. The child i was drowned, and the body has not yet I been recovered. Mr Wilkinson reecived • minor injuries to his leg. Mrs Mooar i was thrown into the river, but later was ' rescued. Mr and Mrs Mooar and their 'youngest child are in. hospital. The rear part of the car struck a wing of the bridge as the car was entering. I ROTORUA, May 23. j* The inquest on James Casey, -vho wasj :. killed on May 11 while working at an j I electric light wire, was resumed before j ; Mr Dyer to-day. *• The evidence showed * that deceased and William Herbert I Hayden went to repair a break in the J line, without reporting to the second ! engineer at the sub-station, a.-* they j should. They left the switch out and j 5 the current off. Their absence on the j b'ne not being known at the pub-station, j the switch was replaced, turning on *->ur- ' rent and causing the accident. Hay- ! den. who had received a bad shock, was i only able to give evidence now. The inquest was further adjourned until Tuesday next.
