WELLINGTON, May 22. At the Supreme Court, John Walsh recovered £175 from William Butler as damages caused through a ladder, on which plaintiff was painting a house, carrymg away. As a result of the fall his left leg was broken. The jury found that the ladder .provided was unsafe. The original claim iras £255. Notice of appeal was given. AUCKLAND, May 22. At the Supreme Court, Alfred Grossey, alias Crossby, alias Sossley, wa6 found guilty of false pretences, forgery and utterance of a cheque and theft, and was sentenced to three years' hard labor, ' Domingo Carlos and Enrique Varela, Spanish firemen, pleaded guilty t« assaulting the British members of the crew of a steamer. Carlos was sentenced to six months' and Varela to one month's imprisonment.
