HIGH COMMISSIONER'S MESSAGE
SATISFACTORY OFFICIAL REPORTS.
WELLINGTON, May 23. The High Commissioner reports from London at 12.55 p.m. on May 22: Sir Douglas Haig reports: Northeastwards of Epehy, northwards of Armentieres, we made a successful raid in the night. Eastwards of Bullecourt, southwards of the Arras-Cambrai road and westwards of Lens the enemy artillery was active in the night. On the Arras-Cambrai road north-eastwards of Queant a large German ammunition dump was destroyed yesterday after- ' noon. The shock of the explosion was i felt at a great distance behind our lines.
A French official statement says: In the Champagne a reaction by enemy artillery against the positions we conquered yesterday northwards of Mont Cornillet and Casque Meton, was followed by attacks of infantry on three sectors. The enemy was everywhere repulsed with sensible losses and without result. Unwounded prisoners taken on Sunday numbered about 1000.
