A chemist, formerly a member °* gave .evidence to the effect that shortly after the war began he delivered lectures in the rooms of the organisation on elementary chemistry and the manufacture of explosives, wnen the action of phosphorous and spontaneous combustion were discussed, I members freely stating that the only way to stop conscription was to create noting by breaking shop windows, and ' burning Sydney down One said he knew three Bremen, I.W.W. men who would hoid the water pressure back. The chief officer of the Fire Brigade ! stated it was a cunous fact that all the fires withm the past few months had occurred in buildings unconnected with xh c fire brigade, all being without sprinklers or firejiWs.
