HOCKEY.
Hockey this year has suffered considerably through a large number of playprs enlisting for active service, and although at present a complete list is . not to hand of members of various club who have gone. "Enthusiast" has heard of the following:—Normanby Club: Sergeant GL A. McKoy, Privates T. Anstis and H. Linn (now in camp). Kaponga Club: Privates H. Faull, W.Faull, T. Christie, and W. Cran. Hawera Club* Privates B. Lethabv. Peterson, R. Hardlqy, J. Tait, W. Gasldn, F. Sage. A. Hurrell, Lieutenant J. N. Rauch, and Sergeant N. Arthur. All these members' names are to be placed on record of the New Zealafnd Hockey Association books as a mark of honor. It is to be hoped next Wednesday to get the seven-aside off, .and there should be some really interesting bouts. It is hard to place the winners. Hawera A are to hold tho Taranaki Hockey Shield, also the Taranaki Cup, Both of these trophies will be on view in Mr C. Gomer's window at an early date. Another keen gupporter of hockey (Mr C. Harrison) has received instructions to proceed to camp. While saying we are deeply sorry, to lose such a good sport, we feel proud of his patriotic spirit, and wish him every success.. May he be spared to come back and wield the stick again. There is no definite news yet regarding Wanganui sending up a representative team. It is to be hoped they do, as TaranaM are very keen.
