FARMERS' VISIT.
a> party of twenty-eight fanners from. Kiverdale, under the lead of Mr J. V.. Uyboiai, paid a visit to the Mwmahaki estate farm on Jmday, and hatf a thor«.ghly interesting, "enjovabia, and proli±4.ble outing. The party left by the southward bound mail train, and were met at the Moumahaki station bv two brakes, which conveyed the visitors to the farm,, where "the manager (Air Jjonsdale) had an appetising lunch awaiting them. After luncheon, the party were conducted oveic the farm where they inspected the various plots under cultivation. The first paddock seen was that containing, imported and locally-grown grasses; tha New Zealand grasses apparently were doing better than the imported ones* The next paddock visited was one from which a crop of weeds had been taken off., and red clover sown ou it, the clover having done splendidly. Immediately the crop was taken off sheep were put on the land. Afterwards a lucerne paddock, containing 15 aeresj was inspected, the crop having been put down 18 months previously. This season the lucerne- was cut before November, when a large crop of hay was secured from it. It was cut again on February 26]. wflen anothed large crop was obtained. After the last cutting, many tons to the-acre were token off as green feed. The paddocks containing the root crops were also inspected, the different crops bV mg all excellently grown. Afterwards the stock sections were visited, and the party greatly admired the Ayrshire, Guernsey, and Shorthorn bulls, and'also the dairy Herd, which has given very satisfactory yields this season. Before leaving the fai:m the visitors were shown a fresh lucerne paddock, from which four successive crops had been cut this year
Various other departments of the farm were visited, and the party came away more than pleased with what they had seen. After having afternoon tea the visitors left for Hawera by the evening mail train. Another excursion is being arranged for next month.
