PROCEEDINGS IN GREYMOUTH
GREYMOUTH, Nov. 16. On Saturday the Federation held what was billed to be a huge demonstration of workers, organised and unorganised, as a protest against the arrest of the strike leaders in Weliinton. Heavy rain commenced to fall at the hour of starting, and the proceedings went very flat. The procession, headed by two red banners, consisted^ mainly of State miners, accompanied by women with perambulators, •he streets were crowded with people. Owing to the continued rain, open-air speech-making was abandoned and an adjournment was made to the Town Hall. Various speakers addressed the meeting denouncing the Government, the Employers' Union, the press in. general, and the local press in particular, lhe citizens will hold a meeting to-day (Monday) to arrange for working the port. _ °
It is understood that local business people are stopping the credit system to all strikers.
