'The steamer Franconia halted ovei tbe spot where the Titathc foundered,, ond laurel wreaths made by members ■of the late Mr "W. T. Stead's family ifrom trees in his garden were cast into the sea. The :band played "Nearer My God to Thee," and fifteen hundred men and women stood on the decks with bowed heads during the ceremony.
