HAWERA BOWLING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting or the Hawera Bo.viixig _-_v._> ua* ~c.v on Inursuay ey.nnn.. \,„eu tnure ._ as a good atienuance. Air >-~ a. l'ai.Kiusun in tne ciiair. T'ne repoiD and balance-sheet were react, tne iornier being as ioho.vs: me cumiiutcce nua _>ieitsm_ in congratulating members on tne year's reHUlts. xnougn not successful in winding any oi the mtt:r-cmb competitions, tne <Jlub was creoitably represented in all, anu in these competitions and in the ordinary club games mem.er. had a most enjoyable time. j The financial position is probably the j most satisfactory in the history of the | Club. Revenue from .-üb.cripcions to- j tailed £153; rent, etc., from the Tennis ' Club brought in £\) 15a, and competition entrance fees and donations about £12, making a total of practically | £175. The expenditure roughly was about £125, so that our debt was I reduced by £50—£50 l'rs 3d, to be] exact. The principal items of expenditure were: Labor £50 5s 6d, interest and bank charges £17 6s Bd, borough rates and repayment of drain- j age loan £8 8s lid, trophies £7 7s. I Subscription to Associations, telephone, j printing, provision for afternoon teas, I top-dressing, carting, etc., as detailed in the treasurer's statement, account for tbe balance. The statement of liabilities and assets shows that we owe # the bank £225, and that the official valuation of our property is £545, to which is added £10 for roller and other plant. So that we have a surplus of £329. For the coming year there are several heavy items of expenditure in prospect. The committee has applied to the Borough Council for a better water supply, the estimated capital cost of which is £25. The pavilion should be painted and repaired, the probable cost being £10. As to the enlargement of the pavilion, the committee is unable to recommend anything extensive, but a suggestion has been made that by moving out the western wall useful extra accommodation can be secured at a cost of about £20. It is also time # that the.rules of the Club .were revised and brought up to date." This meeting will no doubt instruct the incoming committee upon these several matters. The committee regrets to report that Mr Reilly desires to be relieved of the office of hon. secretary and treasurer. I The Club is under a debt of gratitude ito him for the time and trouble he has given to its affairs during the past three years. It is doubtful whether members sufficiently appreciate |how greatly the Club's prosperity depends on the work of the secretary. A number of the ladies interested in the Ch* have been extremely kind m arranging teas especially for the entertainment of our visitors, and hearty thanks are due to them. It is hoped that they will continue to assist the Club. No doubt a meeting will be called at an early date to make arrangements for the coining season. Various sub-committees have worked well and have materially helped in the aatisfnetory conduct of the affairs of the Club and m the' beautification of the surroundings of the green; and a word of anpreciation is due in resnect of the work of the caretaker, Mr i. Muir. Members f ] "tb- repm-t ■satisfactory, and on the motion of Messrs Dnnlo'-) and Salmon the adoption was ag'-pod to. delegate on the New Zealand Bowling Association. The committee was requested to prepare a draft of revised rules and submit it to a meeting of members. wlt was resolved to mstal an additional water supply; and to paint and repair the pavilion, but not to expend any money in enlarging. It was decided that all special committees be appointed by the general committee, with power to go outside the general committee if desirable. A proposal to raise the subscription by 10s. giving a- rebate of the same amount if paid by 31st December, was debated and withdrawn. It was agreed that the selection committee be recommended to give I teams an opportunity as far as may be j possible of selecting their own skips, j A vote of condolence was passed in I connection with the death of Mr Rod- [ well, for many years secretary of the ["N anganui Club, a letter to be sent to the club and his relatives.
