N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE AGENCY CO.'S REPORT.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford branch, report as follows : — On Tuesday, July 29, we held our usual.fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards, when there was a fair entry of 2Qo head of cattle, mostly farmers' lines, and as we had two or three outside buyers from Ohura, etc., most of the stock sold readily at advanced rates. The following prices were realised:—Yearling steers, 45s to 55s 6d; yearling heifers, 40s 6d to 55s 6d ; yearling heifers, showing Jersey-Hol-stein cross. 52s 6d to 655; Holstein yearling bulls, up to £4 3s; 20-months steers, 63s to 70s; 2 to 2^-year steers, 91s to 975; bulls, 85s; store cows, 56s to'69s 6d; forward cows, 85s to 115s. In the dairy yards, several small lines of dairy cows were offered, but did not attract keen bidding, owing no doubt to their unknown milking qualities. However, owners met the market and most of the cows were disposed of at the following rates:—£s to £7 10s; 3-teaters, 67s 6d +o 80s; Jersey quality, up to £10. We held our usual monthly sale of wool, sheepskins, hides, and tallow on Tuesday, July 29. There was a fair catalogue, but owing to the recent fall in values only a small attendance of buyers was present, and as bidding was dull and not up to what we considered full market value we passed in most of the wool and several lines of good skins. Sheepskins in good condition made from 5Jd to 6£d per.lb; medium woolled, sjd to 5Jd per lb; half-grown wool, 3d to 4d per lb; green skins, up to 7s each; small salted, ls 6d each; damaged, Is 3d each. Wool.—Good clean crutchings made up to 7d per lb, but medium lines realised from s_d to sij-d ; x-bred lambs wool from 7d to 8d for packages; matted fleece, dingy, 6_d per lb; horse hair, ls 6d per lb; ox hides, up to 7_d per "lb; yearling hides, 6|d to 6gd per lb; calfskins, no real good lines in, made from 6_d to 9_d'per lb; rendered tallow, 19s to 22s 6d per cwt.
