As a money-saving proposition, Mr 1 earce (Patea) has asked the Minister ot Public Works whether he will send a qualified man to inspect the machinery used for excavation purposes in the making of the Panama Canal, with a view to adopting any machinery suitable for public works in New Zealand, and doing away with the antiquated shovel and wheelbarrow system at present in vogue?
