A SENSIBLE SUGGESTION.
Mr Okey, the member for Taranaki, is proposing a, change which New Zealand journalists have desired, off and on, for the last forty years, and if he succeeds in having it made he will assuredly be held in grateful remembrance for many a day, not only by journalists, but doubtless also by hundreds of telegraph officers and operators throughout the dominion. Mr Okey is asking the Prime Minister "to forward sealed copies of the Financial Statement to postmasters throughout the country 4 with instructions to deliver them to editors of all newspapers at the time appointed for the delivery of the Statement." If this were done it would save a great deal of unnecessary work and expense, as the sending of many thousands of words and columns of figures by telegraph at night to from fifty to a hundred newsvapers, is an exceptionally heavy order. Years ago. when the matter was pressed on the attention of Mr, Ballance, we think, the question of additions or alterations at the last moment was allowed to outweigh other considerations, bnt we hope that the Massey Ministry will be able to devise ways and means for effecting tfie sensible change recommended by Mr Okey.
