PREMIERS' CONFERENCE.

Mr Fisher attended _ the Premiers' Conference, and explained the Commonwealth proposals to the States in regard to the Commonwealth Savings Bank. The Commonwealth, he said, did not intend fco excludei the States' banks, and he was prepared to make them partners on the basis of the States supp}yins a portion of the capital, 'not exceeding one-half. They would become ic&ponsible for the liabilities and would share the profits in proportion to the capital subscribed. 'Each State would use the bank as far as practicable as its } ankers. If the Commonwealth, were to take ovor s the States' Savings Banks-the States would have the first call on an^ loans to repay the savings banks. The existing loans would also have the first call upon- fhreev-quarters of the deposits in the State available for investment. Mr Fisher said he was prepared to discuss the question of management. After Mr Fisher had answered a number of queries the discussion was adjourned. | Resolutions were carried appointing a committee to enquire into the questions of doubje income tax, bringing the various States' company law in accord with the British law, to further investigate the question of daylight saving, and asking ■ thfi Federal Government to apappojnt ia.Royal Commission to enquire into the carriage.; -and.disposal of Australian! produce to Britain and foreign countries.,''. ~ ..--:;• : ,'',':, ; ..■ .
