oue own cob,eespo:;dent.j The monthly meeting was .held on "Tuesday evening. Present: ■■Comrs. Guy Betts, Death, Melville, and Mills. , CORRESPONDENCE. From Oddfellows' Lodge complaining. cf property owners, in the ' vicinity ;of the Lodge room being permitted to allow their hedges to ov-ergrow the footpath and become a nuisance. Resolved that the offenders be given three days in which to put the matter to rights, fail-. ing this the foreman to do the work and charge cost to the owner of the property. From Mr Newton King applying for an auctioneer's license. —Resolved: Clerk's action in granting same be endorsed, and that the amount of the license go towards the expense of putting the stock road in order, and that the foreman proceed with the work of completing the clearing and forming the xoad up during the coming month. The Engineer advised having received permission from the Hastings Borough Council to employ their inspector and testing gear for testing the board's concrete pipes, and that he had duly appointed the said inspector at a remuneration. —Resolved, that his action, be endorsed.
Resolved that the action of Comrs. Melville and Mills in signing the contracts on behalf of the Board, with the Spiral Pipe Company, and It. McGaffin; and of Comrs. Guy and. Mills, those with John Duthie and Co. and V. R. IJeeve be endorsed.
Some discussion ensued as to the Board's liabilities in the case of accident arising through alteration to a bridge, the clerk being instructed to ascertain -the Board's responsibilities in the matter.
The Foreman was directed to tighten tip the Kaupokonui Bridge and \to tar and sand the new decking; also to accept an offer received for the purchase of the old decking recently removed. The committee set up to go into the question of purchasing a horse and dray reported. It was- agreed, provided the trial by the foreman was satisfactory, to offer Mr W. W. Moller £20 for the mare offered for sale to the Board by him ; also .that Mr P. Pitcher's offer of a second-hand dray and portion of harness for £11 be accepted, the balance of the latter to be purchased locally from the cheapest tenderer. It was resolved that Mr Herbert Melville's application for a sulvert into Ms property be granted on usual terms. The clerk was instructed to write the Methodist Church re completing the clearing of Kapuni road as agreed upon.
It was resolved that action be taken to put a stop to residents using firearms adjacent to the main roads. A complaint was received from the Board's tenant, the Tennis Club, with regard to the unauthorised use by the Defence Department of the club's courts as a' drill ground.—lt was agreed to write the Department informing them that the practice must not be repeated if they wished to retain the use of the Town Hall for drill purposes, pointing out to their notice that the park is available1 for outdoor work whenever required.
Dog Ta?x. —Resolved that the amount of same .be 10s per dog, except dogs which the collector is satisfied are kept exclusively for cattle purposes, for which the tax will be 2s 6d.
In view of the delay in the receipt of pipes from the contractor, and also remaining tenders from the engineer in connection with water-works, it was resolved they be wired ■in the matter and <;ause for same be ascertained.
It was decided that all rates outstanding on January 31 be sued for, without exception.
In view of the fact that the Board "had now acquired the hall property, it was decided to write the Tennis Club with a view to having their lease of that portion of the property on which their courts stand placed on a proper ]eo;al footing between the club and the Board.
It was resolved tbat the clerk insure the library building for £225. Also that the final payment ho made on same, on production by the contractor of the subcontractor's receipts, less 5 per cent. retained for a further month to cover any defects.
Accoivnts to the amount of -£100 were passed, and the meeting concluded.
