NEW YORK, Jan. 18

A fire broke out in the packing plant of Scheitartschild and Sulberger, Chicago. Firemen confined the outbreak to one building, which was destroyed.

An engine exploded in the Coal and Iron Company's power house in Central City, Kentucky, and killed four persons, aaid another workman was fatally injured. '

An explosion of gas wrecked a number of houses in the poorer quarters of Cincinnati. Seven families are unaccounted for. The cause of the explosion is unascertained.
