HEAVY RAINFALL

INVERCARGILL, Nov. 17. The rainfall in Southland this month has been astonishingly persistent. Up to last Sunday 3.0& inches had fallen in Invercargill, compared with .01 for November last year. Between Sunday and 9 o'clock this morning 1.97 inches had fallen, and with the barometer at 29.50 there does not seem much prospect of early improvement. The total for the month to date is 5.04 inches, as against .56 inches for the same period of last year.
