WOOL, SKINS, HIDES,-AND TALLOW FORTNIGHTLY SALE.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report as follows,:— .

There was a good attendance of buyers at to-day's sale, and good, competition was elicited for everything offered. Wool prices, were on a par with the last sale's rates, but skins were rather lower, due to the cable reports of a! drop of-.id" to id per lb on ail skins, with the exception of the best sorts. Hides were in keen demand at a slight advance oh last sales rates.

On Friday, 21st inst., we held a clearing sale on account of Mr J. J&. Clark, Climie road, Ngaere. The weather waas good, and the attendanace was the largest, we believe, ever seen at a cleaaring sale in the district, there being about 350 people present. Mrs Clark jprovided a very fine luncheon, and after those present had partaken of ■same, Mr Budd, the Company's auctioneefj started " the sale with the household furniture arid effects, which were numerous and of superior quality, and which were disposed of under very keen jgompetition, and. realised good prices. The implements and machinery were sold next. These were all in splendid order, and were keenly sought after,, realising full values. The dairy herd were in good condition, and met withjjeen competition, 20 cows making an average of £9. The horses were good reliable animals, but somewhat aged, and realised from £11 15s jfco ~~ 10s, sows in pig made up to 120s, and a boar 255. Prices realised were as follow: Bedsteads up to 40s, wardrobe 71s^ sideboard 163s 6d, dresser 635, chest of drawers 265, organ £20, piano passed in at £28, lady's bicycle 87s 6a, milk cans up to 275, Donald jack 50s, field gate 255, spring dray £15, harness 955, F.F. drill (4years in -use) £23 10s, grass mower 140s, gig £20 15s, tyne harrows 50s, disc harrows 1255, chaff cutter 70s, eight colonies of bees 17s each, factory shares up to 15s eaach, fowls 2s to 3s 6d. A very nice line of 2-year-old heifers made from 117s 6d to 160s, weaner heifers 37s 6d to 655, dairy cows 120s to 280s, while a few backward cows realised from 100s to 115s.

On Tuesday, 25th inst., we held a • clearing sale at Lower Norfolk road on account of Messrs Claridge and Gran'u. There was a fair attendance of about , 50 people, mostly local residents. The J herd, although low in condition, \ was keenly competed for, ,real- ] ising from 100s to 1955, 32 cows mak-, ing an average of 158s, a bull was sold ! at 120s, sows in pig 545, milk cans 19s' to 21s, and a Hornsby s.f. plough at ..445.

On Wednesday we held a clearing sale on account of Mr John Brake, Toko road, Toko, when there was a large attendance of buyers from all parts of the district, totalling in all about 120 people. Mrs Brake had an exceptionally good lunch laid, which was much appreciated. The sundries were afterwards disposed of under very keen competition and realised full values, as follows: Long shafter gig 190s, Price's timber jacks 82s 6d to 110s, milk cans 13s to 28s, aerator ids, tip farm dray 2405.. grass mower 80s, s.f. plough 955. tyne harrows 20s, swingle trees 20s, hay rake 85s, Noxon disc harrows 110s, gig harness 955, saddle and bridle 955, ducks from 2s to 3s each, * geese 4s 6d, fowls 2s 3d, young sows 52s 6d, f.m. ewes 12s 3d, wether lambs Us 4d, bees 9s per hive, the horses,; which were a very reliable lot, realised from £14 5s to £30 ss. Mangolds in plots 5s to 120s per plot. His dairy herd were well known and contained a large number of nice cows of the popular colors, Holstein and Jersey cross, and they were keenly sought after, being exceptionally brisk, and 36 cows averaged 200s, prices ranging from 120s to 2505, store cows realised 655, 14 yearling heifers, including a few steers 50s, pedigree "heifer "Landlady" 7J guineas, Jersey bull J 'Harry Lauder," was paassed in at 15? guineas. On Thursday we held a clearing sale on account of Mr Alick Castle, Climie road, Ngaere, when there was a large attendance of buyers from Normanby, Cardiff, Hawera and the surrounding district, in all about 120 people being present. The herd tfi cows was' well known and was of the Shorthorn, Ayrshire cross type. The cows had been very well cared for and were keenly competed for by local farmers who knew the herd. The machinery and implements were disposed of first, milk cans realising 12s 6d to. 21s, Donald jack 16s, single furrow Duncan plough 110s, steel Queen disc harrows, this district 180s ,light s.f. plough (one which, however, was rather heavy for horse) 70s, chain harrows 70s, light dray 70s, dog cart £13 ss, harness 755, ixiilk waggon £19. cart harness 50s, tntara piles from 8d to lOd. The horses, which were a very ?iice lot, realised from £15 to £25 10s for an unknown fill\j£ which shows promise of being a spjjbdid animal. The herd of 60 cows wapo then disposed of and realised p*ss ranging from 125s to 2405, making an average of 172, a few store cows realising from 85s to 110s, bulls realised from 41s to 100s, and a nice line of 28s yearling heifers (bred by Mr Castle )made 44s 6d, ami 25 yearling steers weiv* sold to a "Whangamomona buyer at 48s.
