At Meremere on Sunday last an old! settler passed away in the person of MrAlexander Birnie at the ri£e age of 75 years. Mr Birnie had been about 30> SSLS. Taran*ki, being formerly at. Normanby, and previously lived for many m Canterbury. vut D, Syme and a^ J- L. Weir, of Mtham, have gone into partnership as . barristers and solicitors. Mr Svme has been many years in Eltham. Mr Weirnas been practising in Eltham for a year, and came from Dunedin, where hewas with the firm of Hosking and Cook
